Jubilees at Hall Royd
Hall Royd Junction featured three sets of Jubilee workings; from Liverpool on the Trans-Pennine workings to York and Newcastle, from Bradford and Leeds and points east on Summer Saturday excursions and from Newton Heath.
Locomotives making up the three groups can be identified with some accuracy both from published references such as the Ian Allan Locoshed books, and from the study of photographs and video clips.
Liverpool Bank Hall
45517 from August 1958
45698 'Mars' at Bank Hall from September 1948
45717 'Dauntless' at Bank Hall from March 1948
45719 'Glorious' at Bank Hall from March 1953
The STORMRail site has an excellent summary of the allocation and deployment of this pool of four locos. They worked the 10.30 am Liverpool Exchange - Newcastle Restaurant Car express as far as York. On their return they worked the 5:15pm from York to Manchester Victoria as far as Wakefield Kirkgate, where they eventually took over the 4:42 pm Newcastle - Liverpool Exchange express. In August 1958 unrebuilt Patriot number 45517 was transferred to Bank Hall from Willesden shed, and remained there until its withdrawal in June 1962. 45517 worked turn and turn about with the three Jubilees and according to STORMRail monopolised the Newcastle turn for most of 1959. Photographs show 'Mars' with a Fowler tender in the 50s, but it was subsequently paired with a Stanier type whilst still at Bank Hall.
Newton Heath
Paul Shackcloth in his 'Newton Heath Engines at Work 1948-1968' provides an excellent overview of the locos based at Newton Heath. The book records 43 Jubilees being based at Newton Heath in the BR period. Many of these were for very short periods: often a month or two.
In terms of specific Newton Heath workings, it was customary for a Jubilee to provide a Jubilee to work the 6.15 am (Saturdays only) Manchester Victoria - Bradford Exchange. The loco then returned later in the morning with the Mytholmroyd - Moston mineral working. 45710 'Irresistible' was photographed on this working by Richard Greenwood in August 1960 passing throguh Todmorden station towards Manchester. Richard also caught 45623 'Palestine' on the same working on 13 October 1962.
Locos associated with Newton Heath for relatively long periods during the BR period were 45635, 45642, 45652, 45661, 45671, 45700, 45701, 45706, 45710, 45712, 45719 and 45737.

Jubilees from a number of sheds in West Yorkshire were drawn on to power the Summer Saturday excursions, which in turn, started from a wide number of locations. Popular sheds were Low Moor, Farnley Junction, Mirfield, etc.
